Tesamorelin in Orlando
Tesamorelin is a prescription injectable medication, marketed as Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR. It is FDA-approved for reducing excess abdominal fat in adults living with HIV who have lipodystrophy, a condition in which fat is distributed abnormally throughout the body.
Tesamorelin is not FDA-approved for general weight loss, obesity, anti-aging, or routine body-composition goals. Egrifta SV and Egrifta WR also differ in strength, preparation, and dosing, so they are not interchangeable.
How It Works
Tesamorelin copies a signal your brain sends to the pituitary gland. It does not supply growth hormone directly. Instead, it prompts your own pituitary to release more of it. Growth hormone affects how the body stores and breaks down fat, and that is the basis for its effect in the approved population.
Potential Benefits
In the trials supporting approval, adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy experienced:
Reduction in visceral abdominal fat
Improvement in waist measurements
Benefits diminish when treatment stops, and evidence outside the approved population is limited.
Who May Be an Appropriate Candidate
Candidacy here rests on a diagnosis. Your provider checks whether your situation matches the approved indication. If it does not, we explain what prescribing outside that indication would mean for you. Abdominal fat has many causes. Insulin resistance, cortisol, alcohol, sleep, and hormone levels are often the better place to start.
Tesamorelin should be avoided if any of these apply
Active malignancy
Disruption of the pituitary gland from surgery, radiation, trauma, or tumor
Pregnancy
Known hypersensitivity to tesamorelin or mannitol
How It Is Administered
Route
Subcutaneous injection into the abdomen. This is the only route available.
When
Once daily. Your provider will tell you whether to rotate sites and how to reconstitute the medication, which differs between the two products.
Who Does It
You, at home. Our team walks you through preparation and injection before you begin.
How Often It May Be Used
Daily, without skipped doses, since the effect depends on consistent administration. Your provider sets a point to reassess whether continuing makes sense, and abdominal fat typically returns after treatment ends.
Safety Considerations
Tesamorelin carries FDA approval only for HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Compounded tesamorelin, or tesamorelin prescribed for weight loss or wellness, falls outside that labeled indication.
The approved labeling warns about:
Increased IGF-1 levels
Fluid retention, joint pain, and swelling
Glucose intolerance and new or worsening diabetes
Hypersensitivity reactions
Potential malignancy risk
Long-term cardiovascular safety that has not been established
Blood sugar should be monitored during treatment, particularly if you have diabetes or prediabetes. Report swelling, joint pain, tingling in the hands, or vision changes to your provider.
Consult With Our Clinical Team
An honest conversation about whether tesamorelin fits your situation is more useful than a prescription you did not need. We don’t prescribe anything on our peptide menu without baseline labs on file. Those labs inform the decision. They do not make it.
The Discovery Consultation is free and carries no obligation to proceed.
