B12 Injection in Orlando
The B12 injection delivers vitamin B12, a nutrient required for red blood cell formation, nerve function, and energy metabolism. It is among the most established of the injections we offer, and the one with the clearest medical basis.
You can receive one as an individual service or through the Vitamin Shot Membership.
Key Ingredients and Nutrients
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin): Typically supplied as cyanocobalamin or hydroxocobalamin depending on the preparation.
B12: Absorbed in the small intestine through a process that requires a protein made in the stomach.
When that process fails, which happens with age, certain medications, and some digestive conditions, oral supplements may not resolve a deficiency. Injection bypasses the normal gastrointestinal absorption step, which can be useful when oral absorption is impaired.
What It May Help Support
Normal metabolism and reduced fatigue
Nervous system function
Red blood cell production
Neurologic or cognitive symptoms related to B12 deficiency
Potential Benefits
Patients with deficiency-associated symptoms report:
Improvement in fatigue
Better concentration
Reduction in tingling or numbness related to deficiency
While deficiency-associated symptoms may improve, “borderline” results require clinical interpretation and sometimes methylmalonic acid or homocysteine testing.
Who May Be an Appropriate Candidate
B12 deficiency is common in specific groups, and that is where this injection does the most good. Vegetarians and vegans, adults over 50, people taking metformin or long-term acid reducers, and anyone with Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, or a history of gastric or intestinal surgery may fall into that category.
Use caution or avoid if you have:
A known sensitivity to cobalt or cobalamin
Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy
Unexplained neurological symptoms that have not been evaluated
How It Is Administered
Route
Into the muscle, most often the deltoid.
When
At your appointment, which takes only a few minutes.
Who Does It
A member of our clinical team gives the injection.
How Often It May Be Used
Weekly is typical at the start, spacing out to monthly once levels are restored. Membership gives you four a month. You can also pay per injection.
Safety Considerations
Injectable B12 is FDA-approved for treating B12 deficiency, including deficiency from pernicious anemia. That approval covers deficiency. Using B12 for energy in someone with normal levels is a different matter and is not an approved use.
Labs are unnecessary before most injections on our menu. B12 is worth an exception, because your level tells you whether the injection has any work to do.
Possible effects include:
Injection site pain or swelling
Mild diarrhea
Itching or rash, uncommonly
Low potassium when treating severe deficiency
Mention any kidney disease or potassium issues before starting.
Talk With Our Clinical Team
A B12 level may help determine deficiencies but may not fully reflect tissue deficiency; CBC, methylmalonic acid, homocysteine, symptoms, and the underlying cause should also be considered. Still, an appropriate assessment is better than guessing. Consultations are complimentary, and there is no obligation after you meet with us.
